What Brokerage Support Should Actually Include

“Full support” is the least informative phrase in brokerage recruiting. Every firm says it. The useful exercise is to convert it into a list of specific things that either happen or do not.

Broker availability

The single most valuable thing a brokerage provides is a broker who answers the phone when a deal is going sideways at eight in the evening. Ask directly: who do I call, how fast do they respond, and what happens when they are away.

A named person, reachable, who has seen the situation before, is worth more than any technology stack.

Compliance and file review

In Alberta, brokerage conduct and record-keeping obligations sit under the Real Estate Council of Alberta. A brokerage that reviews your files properly is protecting your licence, not checking up on you.

Ask how quickly files are reviewed, whether anyone reads the paperwork before it becomes a problem, and what happens if something is wrong.

Onboarding that is a process, not a welcome email

A defined first-thirty-days sequence: systems access, a walkthrough of how a transaction moves through the brokerage, marketing materials produced rather than promised, introductions to the people you will actually need, and a scheduled check-in.

Systems that are actually provided

Ask what is included versus what is merely available to purchase. CRM, transaction management, e-signature, marketing templates, photography arrangements, signage. Get the list in writing with the cost of each, because “we have that” and “that is included” are different sentences.

Marketing you do not have to build from scratch

Listing presentations, feature sheets, social templates and a brokerage website presence that actually sends enquiries to the right agent. The test is whether a new agent can produce a professional listing package in their first week without designing anything.

Payment terms

How quickly commissions are paid after closing, what documentation triggers payment, and who to chase. This is unglamorous and it matters more than almost anything else on this list to an agent’s actual life.

What happens at the exit

Ask before you join, not when you are leaving: what happens to your listings, your database and your pending files if you move, and whether any fee applies. A brokerage that answers this plainly is telling you something good about how it operates.

Room to grow in more than one direction

An agent who starts residential and later wants commercial work, or who wants to take on landlord clients and leasing, is better served by a brokerage that does both than by one that does not. The same applies in reverse.

How Rimrock is set up

If you are comparing brokerages, we are happy to answer every question on this list specifically rather than generally. See what joining involves, or call 403-910-4611.
